As a small child I dreamed of being an Artist without really knowing what that meant. I played with horses that I made out of mud and gazed at the stars. In later life I took a degree in sculpture and learnt how to make things that didn’t turn back to dust. I have been a practicing artist ever since, making both two dimensional and three dimensional works which include ceramics, bronzes, photographic imagery and mixed media pieces. My life as an artist has become a lively combination of exhibiting, teaching and completing commissions. Click on the images to view larger versions.

Some dream of hope, some hope to have a dream, some are overtaken by demons. Childhood dreams, adult nightmares and the endless possibilities of new life. Through this body of work we have explored the nature and variety of the dreams and demons that we all possess. Click on the images to view larger versions.

by the Hand of the Maker... 24th June to 10th July (and beyond) 2011 by Siddy Langley

Siddy Langley is one of Britain’s leading glass artists. Working with molten glass gathered from the furnace and using precious metals such as gold, silver and tin, she applies the decoration before the glass is blown. The design then grows with the piece to form the delicate and intricate patterns that characterise Siddy’s work. She fashions each individual piece by hand using a freeblowing technique that ensures that each signed and dated piece is unique. There have been several solo and joint exhibitions of her work at Neville Pundole’s Galleries for whom she has designed and made exclusive Limited Editions. by the Hand of the Maker... 24th June to 10th July (and beyond) 2011 by Phillip Kotokwa

Phillip commutes between his homeland (Zimbabwe) and the UK... He showed an early interest in stone sculpture and determined to make it his life’s work.  He turned to sculpture full-time in 1994 and works on the most demanding of stones including leopard rock, granite, serpentine and spring stone. As his ideas expanded beyond the typical Zimbabwean style, Phillip began to search abroad for new ideas and methods. He has never lacked imagination and has the grit and determination needed to get his wonderful sculptures out of Zimbabwe and into exhibitions and galleries around the world including the highly successful annual exhibition In Praise of Women at the OXO Gallery in London. by the Hand of the Maker... 24th June to 10th July (and beyond) 2011 by Martin Evans

“... I began making glass in 1976... Sculpture and painting fuse in my glass work, accident and chance insinuate themselves in the spaces, I am an object maker...I believe that objects are important, that you invest something of yourself in them which can energise the environment of the people who own them. Glass is a magical and mercurial material... Full of contradictions it is a wonderful material and provides a stern discipline, which can lead from moments of Zen concentration, to dramatic and sudden movement as the gyrating gob of glass threatens to take chaotic control.” “Breathe lightly, life is delicate and subtle. The universe is like a fine workshop of the maker of glass” Mohammed Taqui Mir 1723-1810 Click on the images to view larger versions.

by the Hand of the Maker... 24th June to 10th July (and beyond) 2011 by Amanda Brisbane

“Amanda’s work has a masterful fluency that depends entirely on the casting being completed in a single stage.  As the molten glass begins to solidify, she intervenes, manipulating it with her hands, coaxing new shapes to materialize. It is an intense, engaging process which captures the exact moment the sculpture comes into being. Amanda replicates the essential characteristics of her designs, while slight variations in shape and colour only add to their beguiling, dramatic charm. Each piece of glass is a subtle collaboration of artistry and chemistry. Unusually, Amanda produces all the raw materials used to colour the glass herself. The Oxides used in the process are what help to define each sculpture. The end result is always something unique - an original work of art. “ Click on the images to view larger versions.
